Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is ready to sell Sergio Ramos with the long-term aim of tempting Jose Mourinho back from Chelsea.
El Pais says Perez is quietly dismantling the leadership group which regularly butted heads with Mourinho during his time in charge.
Manchester United target Ramos was part of a group of players who actively opposed Mourinho and campaigned for his exit.

Many believe it was the beginning of fall-out between Ramos and Perez
El Pais journalist Diego Torres quoted one Spanish international as having told him in 2013. There was a general feeling among some players that Mourinho's antagonism of Barcelona was counter-productive.
In Torres' book about Mourinho’s Madrid years published in English as The Special One he suggests that Mourinho warned Perez that Ramos and Casillas’ influence not only undermined the authority of the coach but would ultimately undermine the authority of the President.
At first Perez tried to arbitrate between his captains and his manager but ultimately he came down on the side of Mourinho and against his players. Relations between Ramos and Mourinho reached their lowest point when Real Madrid lost to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League semi-finals in 2013.
It was his last chance to win the European Cup with Real before leaving at the end of that season and while he, in part, blamed Ramos for the defeat, the defender blamed his manager’s tactics.
Ramos seventh in Real Madrid’s pay league behind Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema, Casillas, James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos.
He also lags far behind other players in his postition such as Thiago Silva, John Terry and David Luiz. And perhaps most tellingly earns €3m less than his Spanish central defensive team-mate Gerard Pique.
Perez does not want to be seen as driving out Ramos because that would make him the villain of the piece. This week various newspaper and television editorials have depicted Ramos as the money-grabbing bad guy.
He sees the hand of the president in those opinion-forming character assassinations and has doubled his resolve to leave because of them
