Maurizio Sarri says there is plenty more work for his players to do physically and tactically before they are fully up to speed with his methodology.
The Blues were beaten by the better side at Wembley in today’s Community Shield and in his assessment of a tough 90 minutes in boiling temperatures, the boss noted room for improvement.
‘In this moment there is a little difference, maybe not little, between us and City,’ he said.
‘The performance in the first half I think was not too bad. in the second half there was a big difference from the physical point of view. So we have to work. Our pre-season until now has been a bit crazy, so we have to work.
‘I don’t know how long it will take. I arrived here three weeks ago, and at the moment I haven’t seen six players, so it’s very difficult. It depends on me; it depends on the players. Sometimes the work has been very long, sometimes not. In Naples we had difficulties for three or four matches, but the season started at the beginning of July in Naples.’
Sarri was asked which of his methods he already sees in his players
‘Some things, but not too many. We have the idea to press. Sometimes we press in the right way, and sometimes not. We have the idea to be in control of the match, but today we were not in control of the match, so I think we have to work for a long time.
‘It’s not very easy. In the next week we have a friendly match again. I prefer in this moment to be on the pitch with the players training.’

‘I like him. He is a technical player. I like him very much. He has to improve in the defensive phase. It’s difficult in this moment to play with Jorginho, Cesc and Ross all together, but I like him and he will be very useful player for us.’
Sarri spoke about Thibaut Courtois amid speculation his agent has asked for him to leave Chelsea
‘I am not interested in the agent. I want to hear from Courtois. If tomorrow Courtois says the same to me, I have to speak with my club. I want only players with a very high level of motivation, but I don’t have anything to say to the agent.’
Those players involved in the final weekend of the World Cup return to training tomorrow, and Sarri was asked if they could be ready to play against Huddersfield
‘It’s difficult. I hope so, especially for the goalkeeper, but it’s a bit difficult. We can do it for one or two players, no more.’
It was Sarri’s first experience of Wembley stadium
‘It’s beautiful, very interesting, very emotional. The way I imagined it would have been with a win, but other than that it was exactly how I imagined it.’
