Bazaar: What other sartorial advice can you pass on to Bazaar women?
Roitfeld: I think that each women, whatever age, needs to recognize something good in her body. Someone has beautiful legs, someone has beautiful hair, someone else has beautiful décolletage or a beautiful waist or beautiful hands. Everyone has something great. Me, I don’t have a great décolletage but I have a good leg, so I show my legs and my eyes – these are my best parts. Each woman needs to know herself and think that the clothes are here to make her more beautiful, because the person is more important than the clothes. Even though I love fashion, I prefer people to fashion. Fashion is to make the person comfortable in her body, it’s not something very serious, you get to play.
Bazaar: What’s your ultimate luxury Carine?
Roitfeld: I don’t have a big family and we all live in different places on the planet. When we have all of us together on Christmas Eve, it was a big luxury. To have all the people you like, with all the time together, it’s very rare and I don’t know when it will be again. I’m not married, because I’m a very superstitious person in my Russian way, but I am with the same man. My daughter turned 32 and you can imagine how many years that is with the same person that still supports me and listens to me, this is a big luxe. To have a personal consultant and personal adviser, and a person you can talk with after 30 years and that is very rare. It’s not bullshit it’s very real. It’s very honest.
