The deadline has passed to have your say in the uefa.com users' Team of the Year 2005 with more than 1.5 million votes having been cast across the world.
Late changesA final surge in voting saw dramatic late changes in the final XI, which will be unveiled on uefa.com at 12.00CET today. In all, 60 players and managers were nominated for 12 positions, including coach. The nominees were chosen by uefa.com staff, with players selected for performances either for a European club or national side, or in a UEFA club competition last year.
'Huge numbers'After a record number of votes were cast this year, David Farrelly, uefa.com editor-in-chief, said: "It is excellent to see that users of uefa.com have decided to participate in such huge numbers to what amounts to be the largest single vote for selecting the best team of the previous 12 months.
Strong support"Again, the voting has increased year on year, but more importantly than that, as the users have consistently supported our endeavours throughout the season to maintain uefa.com's standing as Europe's football website, we are delighted to give them the opportunity to express their opinion in this way."
Star interviewsOnce the Team of the Year has been named, uefa.com will feature interviews with members of the élite eleven and the winning coach ahead of the resumption of the UEFA Champions League. The uefa.com Team of the Year is not intended to rival more established awards, and does not bear the official UEFA imprimatur. Nevertheless, it has proved hugely popular with fans, and more than seven million votes were cast in previous polls.
