South Ossetia Is Ready to Ward off Georgian Aggression without Russian Help
Dmitry Medoev, the authorized representative of the president of South Ossetia in Russia, stated at a press conference at RIA Novosti information agency that the unrecognized republic “has all the necessary strength and means to deflect aggression from Georgia” without the assistance of Russia in response to a question about possible Georgian aggression. Medoev declined to give out any details about the South Ossetian army.
The presidential representative said that he was sure there would be no war with Georgia. “In my view, there will be no war,” Medoev said. “But if some force provokes conflict, we will manage on our own, without drawing a great atomic power like Russia in to it.” Medoev added that his republic has allies that it would help it, but he did not specify who those allies are.
