In the 1950s the Maglificio Calzificio Torinese (MCT) created Kappa. Sales boomed as the the student movement introduced the concept of casual wear. MCT management decided to start up production of outerwear, based on the success of the firm’s best-selling brand hence, Robe di Kappa was born. Their renowned Omini logo also dates back to 1969 when, during a photo session for the Beatrix bathing suits catalogue, photographers realized they had come up with more than just a pretty picture. It was a shot of a young man and woman, both naked and sitting back to back, their outlines traced by back lighting.
1960s – The founding of Robe di Kappa
Robe di Kappa is founded in response to the demand of young people for a style that is casual yet formal.
1970s - Football
Kappa enters the football scene and sponsors the football team Juventus. Kappa is the first company to introduce a manufacturer’s logo on a jersey.
1973 – La polo di lui
Robe di Kappa launches the polo shirt. This polo shirt is the only design to retain its popularity without changes for the longest period.
1980s - Football
Kappa is among the leading football brands in the world with clubs such as A.C. Milan, Roma, Ajax Amsterdam and Paris S.G.
1980s – The logo taping
Kappa is the first company in the world to introduce logo in a logo tape. Carl Lewis, Janice Joyner and Florence Griffith win some of their greatest victories in attractively innovative and pioneering Italian design.
1990s – Barcelona
Kappa keeps its leading position as Europe’s football brand – now also with clubs such as Barcelona and Red Star Belgrade.
1996 - Champions League
Juventus win their third Champions League final – wearing Kappa of course.
2000 - Kombat
Kappa revolutionises the world of football with the launch of the Kombat jersey. High-tech performance – smart and sexy Italian tight fit.
2000 - The new millennium Europe’s football brand
Kappa continues to expand in the world of football and now sponsors some of the greatest teams in the world.
2002 - Skiing
Kappa launches the world’s most technologically advanced ski wear – Cold Buster 400. It is tested by NASA, and its insulating qualities are such that you can hold a hot iron to it and not feel anything through the garment.
And the accompanying boots? They easily handle temperatures as low as –50˚.
2004 - FCK
Kappa signs sponsor contract with F. C. Copenhagen. At the time the biggest football sponsor contract ever in Scandinavia.
2006 - Golf
Kappa expands its expertise. Now with new high-tech golf wear and sponsorship of the Danish Golf Union.
2006 - BRANN in Bergen
Kappa signs sponsor contract with Brann in Bergen. In 2007, Brann takes the Norwegian title for the first time in 43 years. And an entire city wears Kappa!
2007 - Ice hockey
New addition – a sponsorship of the Nordsjælland Rungsted Cobras.
2008 - One more football contract
This time Kappa expands its boundaries and becomes sponsor of FC Honka in Finland.
2009 – More engagement in Norway
The latest contract is signed with Vålerenga Fotball from Oslo in Norway.
