The next-gen chapter of id's infamous shooter series (built on the DOOM 3 engine) for consoles and PC systems. In the game, you are Matthew Kane, an elite member of Rhino Squad and Earth's valiant invasion force. Fight alone, with your squad, and in hover tanks and mechanized walkers as you engage in a heroic mission into the heart of the Strogg war machine. But, in this epic war between worlds, the only way to defeat the Strogg is to become one of them. Battle through early missions as a deadly marine, then after your capture as a marine-turned-Strogg with enhanced abilities and the power to turn the tide of the war.

Quake 4 is the fourth title in the series of Quake first-person shooter computer games. The game was developed by Raven Software and published by Activision. Raven Software collaborated with id Software, the creators and historical developers of preceding Quake games. In this case, id Software supervised the development of the game as well as providing the Doom 3 engine, now referred to as "id Tech 4" and released under the GNU General Public License on 22 November 2011, upon which it was built.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You need to block the game in your firewall, or be offline while playing this, since CD keys gets checked each time you start it. Or get an unique CDkey.
However This is not a problem for you because you already have a key that you purchased.

Operating System: 2.2.x or better Linux kernel with glibc-2.1 or later and X-Windows
Tested On Ubuntu 13.10 With nvidia 331 (works)
Processor: 1.5 GHz x86 Processor
Memory: 384 MB
Disc Space: 2.2 GB
Graphics Card: Hardware Accelerated 3D Graphics card with 64 MB video memory
Sound Card: OSS Compatible, Works with pulseaudio as well.


Installation Guide Information:
I tried to create an installation guide that is aimed for new linux users, for this guide I am using Ubuntu 13.10 64-bit.
I placed my "Quake 4 (linux Version) English only" folder into my "Home" directory to make it easier, I recommend you doing the same (extract or place) your "Quake 4 (linux Version) " in your "home" directory.
While installing if you get library missing, You can fix the library issues with using this guide

Install Notes:
Unpack
Open Terminal (shortcut Ctrl-Alt-t)
Type Sudo (press space) in terminal, after this drag and drop "quake4-linux-1.4.2.x86.run" file from: "(Quake 4 (linux Version)) folder" into the terminal.
your terminal commend should look something like this:

Note: quake4-linux-1.4.2.x86.run is an installer, you might to check for update here

This file was last updated in 2007 so chances for an update is really small however you can try

Back to the installation in terminal you have similar to this commend

press enter in terminal
when it will ask you for [sudo] password for (your username): you must enter it

It will load: SOFTWARE LICENSE AGREEMENT
press enter till you go up to 100%
It will ask you:
Do you agree with the license? [Y/n]
Press "Y" if you agree and "Enter"

If will ask you:
Would you like to read the README file ? [Y/n]
Press "n" unless you want to read readme

Next thing it will ask you for an installation directory, to make this guide easy just press "Enter"
Next It will ask you: "Please enter the path in which to create the symbolic links" press enter again
It will ask you: Option: 'All versions ( except German release )' ? [Y/n]
Press "Y" then "Enter"

If it will ask you:
Option: 'PunkBuster client/server files' ? [Y/n]
It is up to you if you want PunkBuset installed(You need PunkBuster to play online) if you want to install PunkBuster enter "Y" and press Enter

Next it will ask you:
Do you want to install startup menu entries? [Y/n]
Press "Y" then press "Enter"
Now It will tell you about HDD space information
Press "Y" and press Enter

Finally it will ask you:
Installation complete.
Would you like to start now? [Y/n]
Press "n" and Press "Enter"

Now You need to copy "q4base" Folder from (Quake 4 (linux Version) English only) to your Quake 4 install directory in out case "/usr/local/games/quake4/"
To copy files in this directory we will need administrator rights so type in terminal this commend

sudo nautilus /usr/local/games/quake4/

now copy "q4base" Folder from (Quake 4 (linux Version) English only) to "/usr/local/games/quake4/"

It will ask you to merge and replace files you should agree to it.

Ok it is done, you can start playing this game
type in terminal "quake4" and the game will start if it will tell you that it is missing lib files you can use this guide to fix the library issues

When it starts if it will ask you for a Cd key you obviously going to enter your Purchased games CD key but just for fun here are some working keys for Testing

When you start this game and the language is not English then you should edit the cfg file

Open your home directory press "Ctrl+H" or from options enable "show hidden files"
Open ".quake4" in this folder open "q4base" folder, In this folder you will see "Quake4Config.cfg" file open it with your text editor
find
"seta sys_lang"
Change the language to English
it should look like this
seta sys_lang "English"
Save it and start the game from Terminal:q4base

If you will want to uninstall this game, you can use this guide

What I think about this game ??

I like it and I am amazed that people still play this game online, however I think windows version is a bit better in performance.
