Aleph Aguiar's new album, Sugar on my Blackbeans, reimagines the aesthetics of 1960s Latin jazz through the lens of modern performance. Recorded live to tape, the work emphasizes spontaneous improvisation and the authentic energy of the quintet. A key feature of the release is the departure from traditional instrumentation in favor of a trumpet and Hammond organ combination, referencing the legacy of jazz guitar masters. The use of these specific timbres allows for a seamless integration of Latin American rhythmic traditions with a flexible harmonic structure, resulting in profound and energetic ensemble interaction.
