Swiss Army mainly functi0ns in German and French, in Italian to some extent. The whole thing is kept together by instructors, officers and soldiers who are fairly bilingual in German and French.
Soldiers have the right to be addressed in their native language. Officers and instructors usually speak at least German and French. They know enough of either language to teach soldiers about the use of weapons systems and command them around. Some soldiers may also be fluent in both languages and help out when the need arises.
I would not be astonished if English would be used as a Lingua Franca in situations where nobody speaks the other language well enough, it is common in the Swiss business world.
