https://balkaninsight.com/2023/08/21/moldov...urity-concerns/Moldovan Border Police denied entry to the country of world famous Serbian artist Goran Bregovic and his band, apparently for his alleged support for Russia’s annexation of Ukraine’s Crimea.
მოლდოვამ ცნობილი სერბი მუსიკოსი ქვეყანაში არ შეუშვა რუსეთის მიერ ყირიმის ანექსიი მხარდაჭერის გამო.
The Border Police on Monday said it had acted “based on the risk analysis and on information obtained through the exchange of information with the Intelligence and Security Service, but also with international partners”.
Bregovic and his band were not allowed to enter Moldova after landing at Chisinau International Airport on Sunday. The artists were to perform at the annual Gustar festival on Sunday. The event organisers offered an apology to the visitors.

Bregovic said on social media that he was disappointed by the authorities’ decision not to let him enter Moldova.
“I have done many tours with my musicians all over Europe and have never had any difficulties anywhere. I like your country very much, and it is a pleasure to respond to the opportunity to sing in Moldova, especially at such a colourful and unique festival as Gustar,” Bregovic said.
Although he claimed that he had not encountered any problems in other parts of Europe, he was banned from performing Ukraine and Poland after he staged a concert in occupied Crimea in March 2015 after the Russian takeover.
Moldovan Border Police also said the festival organisers were informed before his arrival about the ban, which was applied in 2022.
Moldova’s former pro-Russian president and the leader of the opposition Party of Socialists of Moldova, Igor Dodon, sent an ironic pun to President Maia Sandu about the ban.
The Serbian Foreign Ministry demanded an explanation from the authorities in Chisinau. Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said the ban “does not correspond to the traditional friendly relations” between the two states.
Born in Sarajevo, Bosnia, in 1950, Bregovic gained fame as lead guitarist in the hugely popular Yugoslav band Bijelo Dugme. Since the band broke up, he has toured the world with his orchestra.
